This machine was invented by the British engineer, Sir W. Armstrong. In this device it is the moving particles of condensed water from the steam issuing wooden nozzle (a) that produce electric charge. Charge is collected by a row of spikes at (v). Armstrong was able to produce sparks some four or five feet long.
